In the Grocery

Mountain People's has many foods that you may have a hard time finding elsewhere. We also have many animal-alternatives and organics.
  • New gluten-free section
  • Soy and rice products, such as soy milk and rice milk, non-dairy cheeses, tofu, tempeh, and seitan
  • Meatless burgers, hot dogs, and meals
  • Wheat free breads
  • Many vegetarian dry mixes for soups, side dishes and entrees
  • Macriobiotic foods, such as tamari and miso
  • Organic milk, butter, cheeses, cereal, oils, juices, hot sauces, salsas and dressings

Bulk Foods
Our bulk foods section (which includes *many* organics), in particular, draws people from all over north-central West Virginia. Shoppers are encouraged to help themselves to these foods (and many others) which we sell by the pound:

  • Flours: many varieties, some hard to find, most are organic
  • Grains: rices, quinoa, millet
  • Granolas: many varieties, some being low-fat
  • Coffee: all our coffees are organic, and traded fairly
  • Nuts: almonds, soynuts, walnuts, pine nuts, etc.
  • Dried fruits: raisins, figs, dates, etc. All are unsulphered, many are organic.
  • Beans: most are organic, black beans, soy beans, chick peas, adzuki, others
  • Nut butters: peanut, almond, cashew and tahini.
  • Pastas: many varieties, flavors and shapes
  • Herbs and spices: not quite everything, but it sometimes seems like it
  • Oils: olive, safflower, peanut, etc
  • Sweeteners: WV honey, turbinado, molasses, sucanat...

Produce
The selection of produce at Mountain People's is competively priced, and usually high in quality. While our selection is variable with availability, we try to keep the staples - oranges, bananas, potatoes, carrots, lettuce, etc. - in stock. Usually about half of what we carry is organic (we are always trying to increase the organic section), and we are often able to carry vegetables from local growers.

Supplements & Vitamins
We have many encapsulated herbs, many tinctured herbs, vitamins, and many dietary supplement combinations. We try to keep up with the rapidly changing and growing products in this area (not an easy task) and while we do not have room for them all, we can get many items by special order (at no extra charge). Don't hesitate to ask.

Bodycare and Non-foods
We have many essential oils, candles, incense and cards. Our buyer gets *great* clothing, and we have a wide selection of books on herbs, cooking, massage, aromatherapy and vegetarianism. We have a wide selection of hair care products, lotions, and soaps, as well as organic cotton products. We also sell shampoos and soaps in bulk, and carry recycled toilet paper, paper towels, and environmentally responsible household cleaners.
