We just located a source of fresh, local, free-roaming Thanksgiving turkeys. These are not certified organic, but they are free-roaming and are fed natural grains without hormones or antibiotics. They are from White Oak Ridge Farm, a small family-run farm outside of Phillipi, WV. Their poultry is state inspected, certified disease-free, and processed in a state-inspected facility. Please see their web site at http://www.whiteoakridgefarm.com/ for information on how they raise their turkeys.
Whole turkeys are fresh, not frozen, and they range in size from 8 lb - 35 lb. The cost for these turkeys will be $3.00/lb.
Also available from White Oak Ridge Farm are fully-cooked, ready to heat-and-eat smoked turkeys, in apple-smoked and cherry-smoked varieties. The cost for these turkeys is 3.75/lb.
To order your turkey, please call the Co-op at 291-6131 by Thursday, Nov. 20, at 6 PM. Quantities are limited and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Join us! Wednesday, October 29, 6:30 - 8:30 PM, at the Monongalia Arts Center (MAC), 107 High St. At this meeting, the board of directors will present a financial report on the Co-op. We will also have a potluck dinner. If you can, please help decrease waste by bringing your own reusable plates and utensils. See you there!

At Mountain People's Co-op, regular deliveries are being made, with items being stocked on Thursday mornings and Saturday mornings. Because we are regularly able to replenish the items that have sold out, our weekly emailing will be listing only the new products that we carrying in the store and the items that we are bringing back after a hiatus. We won't be filling your e-space with everything that is in each week's deliveries – just assume that if you have come to count on it being at the Co-op, we will have it, barring unforeseen circumstances such as the supplier being sold out.

Special thanks go to Cindy O'Brien and Bettina Dennis for organizing the benefit, Keith McManus and Friends for providing the music, and Taylor Runner for being the caller.
A big thanks to the businesses who donated to our silent auction: Acupuncture 2 Heal, Adventure's Edge, Atlas Chiropractic, Black Bear Burritos, The Bookshelf, Friends of Decker's Creek, A Little Behind Cloth Diaper Service, Our Studio, Pinocchio's Toys & Books, Round Right Farm, and Serenity Massage, and to the individuals who donated items: Linda Blake, the Dennis family, the Johnston-Holtzer family, the O'Brien-Harris family, and the Woodfork-Van Dyke family.
We'd also like to thank the Habitat for Humanity ReStore for allowing us to borrow their coolers for the event.
Come this Thursday, October 23, to "The Joy of Soy" cooking class, given by Co-op member and local foodie, Stan Cohen, from 5:30 - 6:30 PM, in the community space (former restaurant area) of the Co-op. It's best to pre-register by contacting Stan Cohen at SCohen@wvu.edu. A donation of $5 will be taken to cover food and handout costs.

"The Joy of Soy" - soy cooking, recipe tasting, and nutrition information
"Cooking with Foods from the Bulk Bins" - easy, healthy recipes that taste good too
"Urban Homesteading" - ideas for self-sufficiency that don't require acres of land, from someone who's doing it
"Natural Personal Care" - learn to make your own natural personal care products
"Clean Your House Naturally" - make your own effective cleaning products from common inexpensive ingredients and try them out on real dirt

We're still looking for people interested in helping us to re-start Food for Health, the Co-op's non-profit "sister organization" that was started in the 1970s and lay dormant for years. Food for Health is a 501-c3 non-profit organization whose mission is to provide education on healthy eating and related lifestyle issues. This organization holds great potential for education, outreach, and community building and could be used to acquire funding to sponsor classes, workshops, and speakers on a multitude of topics. If you are interested in helping to re-start this organization, please respond to this email.
